APRIL

Sunday 26th, Etape Loch Ness,
near Shenval Bed&Breakfast. A cycling event taking place around iconic Loch Ness, offering the chance to cycle 66 miles (106 km) on traffic free roads. The 360° closed-road route around the loch starts and finishes in the Highland capital of Inverness, offering 900 m of ascent. For seasoned cyclists and newcomers.

MAY

Saturday 2nd, Very close to your accommodation base at Shenval B&B the 2020 Glen Affric Duathlon will feature a total of ten categories with the introduction of two new categories for both Male and Female Ultra veterans (age 60 and over). The Super Veteran categories are now for folk aged 50 to 59. The course comprises of : run 7.5 miles, cycle 18 miles, run 2.5 miles. Worth it, not just for the effort but also for the stunning scenery. This is THE most scenic duathlon venue in Scotland - all within the Glen Affric National Nature Reserve. From Friday 8th till Saturday 22nd May. 41st edition of the TGO Challenge.  This well established entirely non-competitive event aims to foster good fellowship among backpackers within the framework of a challenging expedition. It takes 300 long distance walkers on a self-supported trek on a variety of routes over an average 180 miles across the Highlands from the West Coast between Ardrishaig and Torridon to the North Sea shores between Arbroath and Fraserburgh. Some participants on one of the favourite routes through Glen Affric and Glenurquhart will be stopping over at Shenval Bed&Breakfast once more. We extend a very warm welcome to them. 

Between Friday 29th – Sunday 31st, The LochNess360 Challenge is a new three-day running or cycling event in Scotland. It’s 129 km and over 3000 m of ascent, with breathtaking views – what more could you ask for? This is the inaugural year for the Loch Ness 360 Challenge. Following the Loch Ness 360 trail along the Great Glen Way and South Loch Ness Trail around Loch Ness, this is a challenge with a view that you’ll never forget. Multi options for this 129km gruelling challenge: the Mountain Bike Challenge to complete in under 14 hours, the 3 Days-3 Marathons to complete between under 8 to 10 hours each and the Ultra Marathon be completed within 24h. JUNE

Saturday 20th: Highland Cross, Glen Affric, near Shenval B&B. The Highland Cross is a 50-mile duathlon (20 miles on foot, 30 miles on bike) traversing the spectacular Scottish Highlands coast to coast, west to east from Kintail through Glen Affric and Strathglass to Beauly. Highland Cross exists to raise money for causes that benefit the people of Highland, disadvantaged by disability, ill health or social need.

OCTOBER

Sunday 4th, Loch Ness Marathon & Festival of Running, The Loch Ness Marathon follows a spectacular point-to-point route alongside world famous Loch Ness, starting in an atmospheric moorland setting and continues through stunning Highland scenery, taking you along the south-eastern shores of Loch Ness, across the River Ness, to finish in Inverness, capital city of the Highlands. only 30mns away from Shenval Bed & Breakfast, with shorter races of 5 and 10k and Wee Nessie for kids under 5.
