The Glenurquhart Highland Gathering and Games are not by any means the only Highland Gatherings and Games easily accessible from Shenval organic Bed & Breakfast, near Loch Ness. Most of those listed in the Highland Games diary below are to be held in locations less than 2 hours' drive away from us. Some of the smaller events even have you join in if you -adults and children- feel brave enough or want to have a bit of fun!

JULY

Saturday 12 TAIN Highland Gathering, Glenmorangie Field near Glenmorangie Distillery, just over one hour's drive from Shenval B&B: running, cycling, heavy events, light field, solo piping (senior and junior), Highland dancing.

Saturday 15, only 30mns from your accommodation at Shenval organic Bed&Breakfast, the CITY OF INVERNESS Highland Games will take place at the Northern Meeting Park Arena, Inverness. 11.00-20.00. The biggest Highland games in the North of Scotland returns to its historic home in the heart of Inverness, as part of the Inverness Summer Festival. As usual the day will end with the Heavies attempting a unique event which can trace its roots back to The True Highland Games staged in 1822. The Inverness Stonemason’s Stone weighs 252 pounds and always generates the biggest cheer if any of the Heavies have enough strength left at the end of an exhausting day of competition to lift it cleanly over a bar suspended 5 foot in the air. Saturday 15, LOCHCARRON Highland Games, Attadale estate, 2 hours’ drive from Shenval Bed and Breakfast: traditional mixture of heavy events, track and field plus Highland dancing and piping displays, from 11.30am till 5pm.

Saturday 5, STRATHPEFFER Highland Gathering, Castle Leod, about 45 mns from your accommodation base at Shenval Bed&Breakfast. Events: Solo Piping, Highland Dancing, Running, Field Events, Heavy events, Tug Of War, Cycling, hill race, Piping Competition

Saturday 5, NEWTONMORE Highland Games, the Eilan, just over an hour’s drive from your accommodation at Shenval B&B. Events: Running, Heavy Weights, Solo Piping, Light Field, Highland Dance and the Creag Dhubh hill race. As usual there will be the spectacular sights of the Clan Macpherson Annual Rally and March to the Games. 

Wednesday 9, ISLE OF SKYE Highland Games, The Lump, Portree. Events: Running, Heavy Weights, Tug-of-war, Solo Piping, Light Field, Highland Dance. Saturday 12, ABERNETHY Highland Games, at Nethy Bridge, 70ms’ drive from your  accommodation base at Shenval  B&B. Events include: Dancing, Pipe Band, solo Piping and Drumming, Athletics, Road Race and Heavy events.

Friday 11, ASSYNT Highland Games, on the North-West Sutherland coast, Culag Park, Lochinver. Events: Running, Heavy Weights, Solo Piping, Light Field, Highland Dancing.

Saturday 19, GLENFINNAN Highland Games in the shadow of the Glenfinnan Monument and the Harry Potter viaduct, a beautiful day’s outing 90mns from your accommodation base at Shenval Bed&Breakfast. 

Saturday 26, our own local Games, ten minutes' drive from Shenval B&B, near Loch Ness, the GLENURQUHART Highland Gathering and Games will be held at Blairbeg Park, Drumnadrochit, 10.30-17.00. Local Events start at 10.30am and Open Events at 1.30pm. Highland games with pipe band, piping competitions, heavy events, field and track events, cycling, tug o’ war, stalls and shows AND the Auld Scottish Race where kilt wearing is compulsory.
